I Loved The British Royal Wedding

I set my alarm for 3:50 A.M. and got up to watch all the coverage on TV. Jack got up around 6:30 A.M. when the wedding show was really getting interesting. Together we watched Kate's arrival at Westminster Abbey and the actual wedding ceremony. We both got a kick out of brother Harry looking back at Kate coming down the aisle on her father's arm and then turning to his brother Wills to give him a quick description of Kate's gown. Maybe it is Harry's flaming red hair but I get such a kick out him. I think he is so down to earth that I can see him coming up to you in a British pub and setting down and chatting with you over a beer.

Everyone has discussed the best dressed and the worst dressed so I'm not going to rehash any of that wedding news. I will just end by saying that my favorite moment of the wedding was when the royal wedding couple drove themselves away from Buckingham Palace with JUST WED on the back license plate and L for learner's permit on the front license plate.

The bride presented her maternal grandmother, Iona Brunswick Gariety with a birthday cake for her birthday which was on September 26.

The wedding couple posed with the longest married couple at the reception.
This would be my brother Carl Gariety and his wife, Esther Leugers Gariety. They have been married for 53 years. They got married in June of 1956.


My only sister, Mary Ellen Gariety Thobe, and her husband Jerry Thobe of
Tipp City, Ohio.
Mary Ellen and Jerry have been married for 47 years. They got married in August of 1962.

These wedding photos record the wedding of my Goddaughter's oldest daughter, Amanda Lee Monnin. My Goddaughter is Darlene Gariety Monnin who is the youngest child of my late brother Paul Gariety.

Jack and I didn't journey back to Ohio for the wedding but have been kept abreast of this happy occasion by many of my Ohio relatives and we have recently received these photos from the bride's proud Mother. I must add that you do begin to realize that you are growing older when your Goddaughter's daughter is in her twenties and old enough to get married! I was told that this was a beautiful wedding with a packed church for both the bride and groom are from Russia, Ohio. So take a look and enjoy.

NARFE Convention In D.C.

Last week the NARFE Executive Convention in Washington D.C. wrapped up on Wednesday morning and two NARFE representatives of the state of Georgia stopped by to have lunch with Jack and I before beginning their drive back to Atlanta, Georgia. In the photo above you see Jack posing with Sandy McTheney McKinney and Tom McKinney. Tom is a graduate of Akron University and was an army auditor for his entire federal career. During the Vietnam War Tom went to the battle zones to audit army clubs in Vietman. Sandy is also a retired federal worker. With names like McTheney and McKinney don't you imagine that they do enjoy St. Paddy's Day.

So we sat around the breakfast table discussing both old times in Germany and NARFE endeavors. Tom told us that their local NARFE chapter in Atlanta will hold a garage sale this spring to raise money for Alzheimer's research which is one of the important projects of NARFE.

So we drank a little wine.

We had quiche and salad for the main course.

A Wegman's fruit tart and coffee followed for dessert.

Sandy and Tom, thanks for stopping by to see us. And readers, this is the same man who got married for the very first time last April when he was 65! (You can see photos of Tom and Sandy's wedding day if you look under my labels for Wedding Day.)

Sarah Palin, Bristol Palin and John McCain

Have you heard that the hottest costume for Halloween parties is not John McCain but Sarah "Miss Alaska" Palin! For every John McCain costume there are two Sarah Palin costumes. Here' the evidence. In the above photo we have two Sarah Palins: the Sarah Palin that was winner or runner up for Miss Alaska and the Sarah Palin who is running all over the country with Baby Trig in her arms in an outfit from Macy's campaigning for Vice President of the United States.

The Sarah in the suit I don't recognize but she sure is a va-va-voom cutie! If this gal can act/do comedy she can replace Tina Fey in the Saturday Night Live skits mocking Sarah Palin. The Sarah in the bright red dress is our daughter Jeanine's roommate, Maria! The young man impersonating John McCain had to use a lot of grey coloring to get his hair John McCain's color but he still looks youthful and much taller then John McCain really is.

Now the last person in the photo is our sweet little daughter Jeanine who decided to stick a pillow under her dress to portray Sarah's daughter who is in a family way. I took one look at the photo and had to have Jack take a quick look and then we both had to get a strong drink. Jeanine! Jeanine!

Our younger daughter just recently flew down to Houston, Texas for a wedding. Here are Jeanine and her beau Brian Rearick standing in the aisle of the Lutheran Church where the wedding ceremony took place. Brian was the best man for the groom. I think Brian and Jeanine look beautiful in this photo. The men in the wedding party wore long black tails and in this photo Brian reminds me of Johnny "the man in black" Cash.

Both our daughters have a soft spot for men with blue eyes! So does their mother.

Here comes the bride all dressed in white.

The bride all in white descends this heart shaped staircase

and exits the front door and descends the Spanish steps

and follows the bridesmaids pass this fountain to the wedding pavilion on the lawn.

She turns to face the awaiting assembled guests and looks back up the pathway to that magnificent Airlie house where later she and the bridegroom will have their wedding reception.

The extensive formal gardens offer many opportunities for photo opts for the wedding couple

and the wedding guests leisurely strolling thru the boxwood lanes.

Everyone will find interesting gateways to explore

like this wood and iron butterfly one. They will want to peep thru the opening to see what they can see of the beautifully landscaped grounds, lake, swimming house, tennis courts, riding stables and grounds, and sweeping lawns.

This past Saturday we attended the wedding of Krista Ann Blakeslee and Joshua Vincent Goff in Warrenton, Virginia.

The decorated tables for the wedding reception under the wide porch of the manor house. Decorated packages of Italian wedding cookies adorned the tables.
The four footed bridal attendant obviously had a bath and a manicure. He smelled nice and hoofed in spirited grand style.
