High School Drama and Choral Groups

Northern Virginia is where the Cappies originated. It now has spread to many chapters across the nation. We have enjoyed many wonderful moments watching the local high school students perform. Two weeks ago Saturday we went to Westfield High School which is the second newest high school in Fairfax County to see a Disney Show.
Here is the auditorium before the show. Many parents with small children in tow were streaming in to watch the Saturday afternoon matinee.
These singers are literally cooking up a great song and dance for the audience.
Do you recognize this Disney character? Yep, it is Pocahontas.
The finale was songs and dances from Disney's High School Musical. The only thing that was changed on purpose was the school mascot. This show didn't have a Wildcat. It had a Bulldog because Westfield is the home of the Bulldogs.

The Capitol Steps Make Fun Of Everyone

For Christmas Jeanine gave to Jack and I tickets to go see the Capitol Steps. We have been hearing about this comedic song and dance group since arriving in the Washington D.C. area almost thirty years ago. Well we sure had fun laughing at their routines. They did one number that went something like what are we going to do----Obama isn't funny. How will we poke fun at him?
This group does know how to poke fun at most folks. Just look at some of their song titles:
Springtime For Liberals
Everything's Run By Pelosi
Lust in Space
I'm So Indicted
How Do You Solve a Problem Like Korea
This is the House That Jack Bribed
Oh What a Beautiful Mormon
Don Imus is a Girl's Best Friend
If I Were a Rich Mensch
Buy, Buy American Pie
McCain's Campaign
Obama Meet Osama

Sky Watch Friday
for November 14, 2008
The New National Harbor
South of the New Wilson Bridge
Across the Potomac River
From Alexandria, VA.
Remember to click on each photo in this series to get more details of this sculture.
This sculpture is entitled
The Awakening.
It Used to be at Haines Point in D.C.
It was moved to the New National Harbor
In Maryland That is Being Developed
By The Gaylord Resort Corporation
Whose Flagship Resort is a Five Acre Atrium
Under Glass in New Orleans Style
In Nashville, TN.

When I Look At This Sculpture I Think of This:

The Presidential Election Is Behind Us and Barack Obama Is Getting Ready to Become Our New American President. I Remember All the Southern Plantations I Have Toured. I Think of How the Owners Had Fancy Fenced Grave Sites With Fancy Tombstones While the Graves of the Slaves on the Plantations Are Lost in Unmarked Clay Dirt.

It is November, 2008

This Surely Is

The Awakening! These Photos Were Taken This Past Sunday.

Lots of Puffy Clouds and Blue Skies
Above The New Spans of the Wilson Bridge.
This is a Complete New Little City:

Is the Great Ethnic Mix of Folks Living Here Which I Just Love!
These Folks Look Like They Hail From India.
Maybe Shiks Since They Are All Wearing Turbans.
Now Here Are The Colorful Circus Tents

Here We Go Thru the Entrance.Someone Has Described Cirque du Soleil as a Theatrical Show That Borders On Opera! I Think That Fits Perfectly.
And Here Is Our Daughter, Jeanine, With Her Good Buddies:

Thank You Note

Jack and I want to thank Jennifer and Terry for giving us the tickets to High School Musical which is currently playing at the National Theater in Washington D.C. This was an extra Christmas present for the two of us. Yesterday it was 72 degrees in D.C. so we went in light jackets. It was so warm that downtown D.C. cafes were serving people outside last night! Amazing weather. I am afraid that a cool front has moved in today and we should be in the forties by the time Sunday is here. There were lots of little girls at this musical. Every mom was there with a daughter between the ages of 4 and 14 on a weekday night. I guess everyone did their homework early. This was a Disney production so it left you feeling upbeat. I liked the basketball dance numbers the best. At the Vienna metro we noticed Obama campaigners holding signs to vote for Obama in next Tuesday's primary. We didn't see anyone campaigning for any of the other candidates. Apparently this shows that Obama has the money and the momentum. I don't know who I will vote for next Tuesday.
I better start thinking. I do know this---I'm not telling anyone whom I'm voting for. I think voting should be a rather private event. By the way they are calling this the Potomac Primary or the Chesapeake Primary. The entire D.C. area will be voting: Maryland, Virginia and D.C.
