Okinawa Memories Part VII

Sukiran Elementary looked like this while I taught there. If you would like to see how Zukeran Elementary looks today just click and go to the school's website: http://www.zukeran-es.pac.dodea.edu/

Enjoyed reading your series of Okinawa memories. My Okinawa memories are from 1956-1959, when I was in grades 4, 5 & 6 at Sukiran Elementary. My father was one of the Army chaplains and we lived just up the street on Kishaba Terrace. It looks like more sections of classrooms were added to the school after we were there. I'm also retired, after 38 years as a high school librarian.

Also enjoyed your pictures. I attended Sukiran Elementary from 1957 - 1960, when my dad was stationed on Okinawa. Loved my childhood days there!

Greetings! I'm so glad to see your photo of Sukiran Elementary! My dad was stationed there 1963-65ish, and I went to that school for 3-most of 5th grades. I remember that the classrooms had front and back doors, each with space at the bottom so flood water could run through. It's amazing to see that photo; the school looks much like my elementary school mind remembers it. Thanks so much!
