Does that top flower have a long straight stem that almost looks like a stick? I have seen flowers around here that I don't ever remember seeing before. They looked similar to this one.

Yes, it does until it gets really big and has side shoots. You can plant these from one pack of seeds and every year after that you will have them come back from dropped seeds. I think I have seen some of these in your dad's photos of his yard.

The next time Melissa comes over I will have to take her around the backyard so she can see some of my Cleome. I have a purple one instead of the usual pink colored one. I saved seeds last year but forgot to plant them this spring and some came up on their own.

I wish I had better luck with Clematis. Mine always die dead.
